Christchurch Gondola guide
The Christchurch Gondola carries you up the Port Hills for views over the city, the plains and Lyttelton Harbour. The ride takes about 10 minutes, and the base station is about 16 minutes by car from our motel.
Prices
These are the prices on the Gondola website when we checked in November 2026:
- Adult: $45
- Child (5 to 15): $22
- Under 5: free
- Family (2 adults and up to 3 children): $123
The Tram and Gondola combo is $82, with a day on the Christchurch Tram. Check current prices on the Gondola website.
Opening hours
- Summer (from 28 September): 10am to 5pm every day
- Winter (from 1 May): 10am to 4pm every day
The last ride down is 1 hour after closing.

- Walking tracks, from a 15-minute stroll to hikes of a few hours
Getting there from the motel
- By car: about 16 minutes, to 10 Bridle Path Road in Heathcote Valley. Parking at the base station is free.
- By the Gondola Shuttle: in summer it leaves Cathedral Square (tram stop 2) on the half hour from 9.30am to 3.30pm, and comes back on the hour from 10am to 4pm. Cathedral Square is a 10-minute walk from the motel.
- By bus: Route 8 from the Bus Interchange stops outside the base station.
